Richard "Dick" LaBelle

It is with deep sorrow that Mrs. Charlotte Nancy LaBelle and her family announce the death of her beloved husband, Mr. Richard Alvin "Dick" LaBelle, 81.

Mr. LaBelle entered into rest on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family.

A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 2 o'clock on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at Lakeview Baptist Church, with The Rev. Ken Hughes officiating. The United States Navy will render military honors, and the Hartsville Masonic Lodge #173 will give Masonic rites. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Mr. LaBelle was born on Friday, November 24, 1944, in Escanaba, Michigan. He is the son of the late Medrick Joseph LaBelle and the late Dorothy Gustafson LaBelle. He married Charlotte Nancy LaBelle, the love of his life. Dick served in the U.S. Navy from 1963 to 1970. His service included duty aboard the destroyer USS Bordelon, the diesel submarine USS Halfbeak, and the nuclear submarine USS Thomas Jefferson. He began his civilian career with Carolina Power & Light, later Duke Energy, in 1969 and retired in 2011 after more than four decades at the Robinson Nuclear Plant and the Brunswick Nuclear Plant.

As a young man, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout with Palms and the Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor. He was an active member of Lakeview Baptist Church. He was a member of Hartsville Masonic Lodge #173, where he served in multiple offices, including Secretary and Worshipful Master, and he was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. He was an avid golfer and softball player who loved coaching youth sports. After retirement, he enjoyed RV camping and, above all, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an incredible and loving husband and father.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Nancy LaBelle; daughter, Ronda Denton (Joe); sons, Richie LaBelle (Stephanie) and Rodney LaBelle (Tamara); brother, Gary LaBelle (Suzie); sister, Carol Hentz (Richard); grandchildren, Johnathon Denton (Shandell), Jeffrey Denton (Alyssa), Carson Rector (Eli), Addison Dellinger (Dylan), Chase LaBelle (Marissa, fiancée), Haley Odenbrett (Peyton), Lauren LaBelle, Christina Reid (Brandon), and Courtney Lane; and great-grandchildren, Everly Denton, Rowan Denton, Iylah Denton, Turner Reid, Francie Reid, Sawyer Odenbrett, and Knox Dellinger (expected in December 2026.)

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Harlan LaBelle, Jimmy LaBelle, and Danny LaBelle; and his sister, Linda Nelson.
