Robert Sherwood Carles

The world got quieter as Robert Sherwood Carles, known as Bob, passed away on October 25th, 2025. He was born on 1/28/1941 in Blair County, PA, to Cleveland and Sophia Carles.

His great voice and personality quickly found success in academics as he graduated from Altoona High School in 1958, John Carroll University in 1964, and Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 1969.

He married June Elane Walsh on May 30th, 1964, Memorial Day, so he would never forget his wedding anniversary. They were married until her passing on October 4th, 2019, and are succeeded by his son Jeffery, daughter-in-law Angela, and grandson Davi, and his daughter Jennifer and son-in-law Ray Schneider, his sister Mona Trybus and his nieces Dr. Marcella Tabor and husband Dr. Dale Tabor, Stephanie Ronyak, JC Trybus and wife Paula Trybus, and his nine great nieces and nephews, as well as his brother-in-law William Walsh.

Bob’s legal career began at the Federal Trade Commission in Cleveland, Ohio, and continued at Coca-Cola in Atlanta, Georgia. He then moved to Charlotte, NC, for an opportunity at Lance, Inc., where he eventually retired as Secretary of the company.

Bob was a very outgoing individual who never met a stranger and particularly enjoyed friendships through his lifelong love of tennis, even ranking in his younger years. Although he was not as active as he used to be, he fully enjoyed his retirement on Oak Island, NC. His absence is already deeply felt.

His arrangements were done by Peacock, Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation at 114 N Howe St. in Southport, NC. There is no service of any kind. He requested his ashes, along with his wife and their cats’, be put in the ocean.
