Rusty, born August 20, 1924, was the last surviving child of Sula Lu Cameron Porter and Archie Porter of Lake City, South Carolina. She grew up on the farm and rode to school in a buggy pulled by a retired racehorse. As all farm children do, she picked cotton, pulled weeds and her least favorite, picked tobacco worms off the plants.
After graduating from Lake City High School, she moved to Charleston, SC and worked at the Port of Embarkation. While in Charleston, she met Cornelius M. Ridner, who passed away in 1989, a lieutenant in the US Army. They married in 1945 and moved to New Jersey. They had two children, Rebecca Susan Cleary and Glenn Edward Ridner who passed away in 2004.
Rusty was school secretary to the principal in the Roxbury Township Public School System for 28 years.
She was very active in the PTA, Lower Berkshire Valley United Methodist Church choir and Lend-a-Hand, played tennis, enjoyed bowling and softball and was introduced to golf by her second husband, Donald Manning. She spent 20 plus years in Florida enjoying golf and was very proud to have accomplished 5 holes-in-one in her 20 years of golf.
Rusty is survived by her daughter Rebecca Cleary (Joseph) Southport, NC, grandson Kevin Cleary (Jennifer) of Clemmons, NC, Kathleen Graig (Christopher) of Woodinville, WA. Great-grandsons,
Luke Graig and Riley Graig, great-granddaughter, Hannah Cleary and numerous nieces and nephews.
