

Sammie was born August 15, 1960 in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, son of the late Sammie Elmer Wells and Jean Sloan Wells. He was a veteran of the US Army having served during the Persian Gulf War. Sammie worked at Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point for 20 years in Information Management. He was active with the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association. You could always catch Sammie cracking a joke or giving advice. He loved to fish and play golf with his son. Some of his favorite memories were times spent with his family in Kentucky, surrounded by his nieces and their families. He will be remembered as a loving father, brother, husband, and uncle.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Wells; a son, Joseph Hunter Wells and wife Adeline; two sisters, Bernadine Wells Isaac and Belinda Carroll Wells Amburgey and husband William; and a brother, Douglas Wells.
A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 in the Peacock - Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
