Steven Ryan Lockey

October 8,1967 ~ November 2, 2019

Steve passed away unexpectedly on Saturday 11/2/2019 at is parent’s home in Hamlet, NC. He is survived by his wife, Debbie, his father Buddy and his brother Dennis. Steve also had many loving extended family and friends. Steve’s mother, Bobby, died suddenly upon learning of his death. Steve often told Deb “I got you babe” and he was always by her side. He was the fixer of anything, afraid of nothing, and often heard to say, “This is a piece of cake, I can do this”. Steve was always willing to help others in any possible way He was a gentle and generous man and will be missed by many. His smile and laugh melted hearts. He loved all animals but especially his Bailey Boy, Finn Kitty and Barry Cuda. These furbabies will provide much comfort as we grieve together and face a life without him. Steve is also survived by some very special non-blood family members. His sister-in-law Karen Bell, whom he called sister because she meant so much to him and she felt the same feelings toward him. Alex Hidalgo, Karen’s partner, was surely his brother in heart and soul. The love, laughter and adventures they experienced are beyond value and provide heartwarming memories for all.

Then there is Kristin Johnston, his and Deb’s sidekick, partner in crime, travel companion, Disney expert and cruise director. She holds a very special place in our hearts.

Steve never had children. He always said he never really liked kids, not in a mean way, just a fact. There were two exceptions to this rule, Brynn and Eloria, two girls that he placed straight into his heart. He loved them beyond measure and they adored him.

He and Deb were married over 25 years, and most of that time they were within arm’s length of each other. But they never tired of each other’s company. Good times, bad times, happy and sad times, they got through them all together. They looked forward to many more years together.

Their happiest times were when they headed down the highway in that big black truck, the Fifth Wheel hooked up and the Harley in the back. It didn’t matter where the destination, they enjoyed the journey. A very special thank you to David LeGwin (Pam) and Matt LeGwin (Jennifer Puskas) for their many deeds of love and support during this most tragic of times.

Steve would say to you all…. “Live every day to the best of your ability, go and do what you can do, enjoy the big times and cherish the small ones. Because, my friends, you never know if tomorrow will arrive.”

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to an animal rescue or charity of your choice.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 9, 2019 in the Peacock - Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel.

Steve was a kind, generous person. His laughter was contagious and he was so much fun to be around. He was the type of person that when you met him for the first time, you just felt like you had known him for years. He was a talker and so funny. He will be truly missed by many. My prayers to Debbie, family and friends.

Debbie I am so sorry for your loss.
It was so great having our vacations together on the cruise each year. Steve was a great guy and incredibly funny. I remember telling him and Kristin this year on the cruise that he should try stand up. I thought he was just that great and I told Tim I wish I could come up with what he did. It will not be the same without him. I will remember all the fun times we did have.

Didn't know Steve except from family reunions and Brunswick stews, but I did like and respect him. He cooked great stew and even though he had physical health problems, did amazing things. I could not believe how he worked at rebuilding their house. It was obvious he loved my Debbie and that's what is most important. Keep riding high Steve.

Debbie and Steve were neighbors of mine when they lived in Texas. My husband and them were avid Nascar fans. Went to texas motor star track in ft worth. Rented a motor home. Ran out of water couldn't bath. Had go to port a potty. Turned cold, no blankets. Even though I am not a race car fan. It is a great .memory. shot fireworks in our backyard. Fun times. Rest in peace Steve, see ya later. You will be missed by many.
