Mrs. Thi Tam Stevenson, age 91, of Southport, North Carolina, will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, quick wit, and unwavering love for her family, friends, and community. She was born on July 25, 1934, in Bình Dương Province, Vietnam, the eighth of nine children, and spent her early years surrounded by family in the southern Vietnamese countryside.
As the Vietnam War encroached on her childhood home, Tam made the courageous decision to move to Saigon, Vietnam at age 18. There, she worked tirelessly to support and protect her family. A successful entrepreneur and respected key member of her community, she built a life defined by resilience and care for others. In 1967, she met her husband Henry F. Stevenson Sr., and together they began a life of devotion and partnership. In 1971, she immigrated to the United States with her children, Van and Bichson, in pursuit of greater opportunities. Later, they welcomed their youngest son, Henry F. Stevenson Jr., and eventually settled as a family in Southport.
Tam dedicated herself fully to her family as a mother and homemaker, creating a home filled with warmth, comfort, and joy and raising children and grandchildren just as vibrant and brave as she was. In her active years, she loved fishing, crabbing, and gardening. Throughout her life, she was known for her generous hospitality, her love of cooking, and her ability to make everyone feel welcomed and cared for.
She was preceded in death by all her siblings, her son Henry F. Stevenson Jr., and grandson Xavier Andrew Stevenson. Those she leaves to lovingly cherish her memories are her husband Henry F. Stevenson Sr., her son Van Sang Nguyen, daughter Bichson Bush (Larry), and grandchildren Shannon Bush, Megan Bush, Catherine Nguyen, and Jonathon Nguyen. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends, all who were touched by her generosity, kindness, and wisdom.
Tam’s legacy is one of unconditional love, strength, loyalty and devotion. She will be deeply missed and will forever live on in everlasting memory.
