Born April 9, 1938 in Yonkers, NY, he was a son of Walter and Edith Doncourt. He attended Iona Prep and Iona College in New Rochelle, NY. He served in the U.S. Army with Honorable Discharge. After his service, he met Mary Ross, the love of his life, and they were married for 56 years. They moved to Southport 12 years ago and pursued their passion for sailing on the boat The Sea Eagle. He was a man of faith and loved his country. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and being an overall great guy.
He is survived by his siblings, Ann Begley, and Peter Doncourt; and his brother-in-law, John Ross and his wife, Elaine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is predeceased by his sister, Joan Goettler.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 pm Friday, May 30, 2025 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Southport. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at the church.
Memorial donations may be made, in Garry’s name, to Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center.
