Harriet Sofman, our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on October 10, 2026, at the age of 92. Born in Newark, NJ, she made Florida her home for the past 45 years. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 60 years, Howard, in 2018, and tragically, a daughter, Andra Lynn, at the age of 18.
Petite and pretty, she always dressed fashionably. It didn’t hurt that Howard was in the women’s shoe business, leading to free shoes for most of her adult life.
A working woman, her career ranged from teaching dance at a Fred Astaire studio, through a long stint as an executive assistant at Kaiser Aluminum in New Jersey, and finally working together at a pair of Joyce-Selby stores with Howard for many years. She also did volunteer work for Lighthouse for the Blind.
Multi-talented, she enjoyed many artistic and athletic endeavors. Musically, she played the accordion as a child and the organ as an adult. Athletically, she ran track in high school, and played tennis in her later years. She was also artistic, having dabbled in sculpting, photography, drawing, sewing, and beading over the years. Most importantly, she loved to read, a trait that she passed on to her children and grandchildren.
Harriet is survived by a son, Michael, daughter-in-law, Susan, and 2 grandsons, Asher and Andrew.
She lived a full, joyful life and will be sorely missed.
A memorial service will be held at Menorah Gardens, 21100 W. Griffin Road, Southwest Ranches, FL 33332, Sunday, November 8 at 2:00 pm.
