Born in Siena, Italy, in 1933, Liana spent her early childhood there before her family fled Europe during World War II. After traveling through Portugal, they made a new life in the United States. Although she spent most of her life in America, Liana remained deeply proud of her Italian heritage and later reclaimed her Italian citizenship.
Liana was predeceased by her beloved husband, Donald Marks, who passed away on August 9, 2026, after nearly 75 years of marriage, and by her beloved daughter, Gayle.
Family was always at the center of Liana’s life. She loved bringing everyone together, especially around the dinner table, where she shared her Italian cooking, traditions, and love of family. To the younger generations, she was lovingly known as “Nonna Liana.”
She is survived by her sons, Gary and his wife, Joy, and Glenn and his wife, Stacey; her four grandsons, Eric and his wife, Robyn; Joshua and his wife, Joelle; Jonathan and his wife, Julia; and Daniel; and her seven great-grandchildren, Zachary, Gabriella, Olivia, Jordan, Leni, Landon, and Ryan.
Liana will be remembered for her strength, generosity, love of Italy, devotion to her family, and the cherished traditions and memories she leaves behind.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Liana’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association. Please use the following link in Honor of Liana:
