Ted and I first met in the Air Force while we were both stationed in Iceland at the Long Range Radar sites in 1967.  We have been close friends ever since.  Ted was a Groomsman in my wedding in 1970.   We talked monthly over the years.  I assisted Ted with recording his final Night Train broadcast, which took place on December 29, 2024, and was part of the film documenting his Night Train years at WLRN.  He was like a brother to me.  I will truly miss you, my friend.

I am saddened to learn of Ted’s passing & worse, just finding this notice today at 4:30 pm.  Rest easy Ted! 
Your baritone voice took me by surprise one day during your deliveries.  I was working day shift at Miami Beach Fire-Prevention Bureau, back in the early 2000s.  I was a mid-level supervisor and was in my office in the afternoon when I heard your voice arrive requesting a signature for some delivery.  The Receptionist had greeted you but the voice intrigued me, “I think I know that voice?”  Sure enough!  What a pleasant surprise!  I am saddened, more so, to admit sitting still has always been a difficult thing for me.  I wish I’d have had the smarts to carry some streaming platform on Sunday nights to listen more often.  “The History of Jazz Music” was my final course at Barry University in 2005, as I was finishing my Public Administration degree.  Your show and an afternoon Big Band program on WDNA were the driving force that made my one last class decision so easy.  How lucky could you get?  WLRN and the listening public has lost a giant!!!

So sad to learn of the loss of Ted.Grossman.
My sympathies and condolences to his family and friends.  I never met him, but I listed as often as I could on Sunday nights on and off for many years since about 1993… We was like a favorite uncle… humorous, so knowledgeable, warm, welcoming and informative… an encyclopedia of jazz.
Such  great music! I now get misty eyed whenever I hear Night Train play… 
Rest in Peace Ted… You were and will always be Uncle Ted to me…

I’m going to remember you forever. Our hours and hours of conversation, your funny quips, your pet names for me, sharing our favorite Jewish food memories…what will I do without you?! Rest easy, my dear Ted.

We (Ted and I) met when I was a regular guest on the great Ed Bell's show on WLRN and we hit it off immediately, becoming the closest of friends, going to events and dining out together (with my beloved late wife, the beautiful and elegant Myrna) frequently.
