

A. Lloyd Kitchin Jr, 93, of Mt. Arlington, NJ passed away on April 13, 2016. He was a resident of Clifton, NJ for the first 30 years of his life and later resided in Towaco, NJ until 2007.He was a resident of Mt. Arlington at his death. He received A.B. in Liberal Arts from Columbia College and a BS in metallurgical engineering from Columbia University’s School of Engineering. After graduation he entered the US Navy and was in Naval Aviation flight training for the Navy/Marine pilots during WW11. His career in the metallurgical field spanned 40 years and included management positions with the Wright Aeronautical Division of the Curtiss Wright Corporation and with the International Nickel Co, (INCO). He was the author of Technical papers in the fields of metal failure, alloy steel research and metal processing which were presented to and/or published by technical organizations including the American Rocket Society, the American Society for Metals and the Society For Automotive Engineers among others. He held many metal alloy patents and was listed in “Who’s Who In American Science”. His later career with INCO Limited was focused on, commercialization of patented metallurgical innovations. At the time of his retirement 19 1984 he was Director of Diversification Ventures world-wide, President of a subsidiary of INCO Limited and was on the Boards of Directors of several companies. He belonged to the Alpha Chi Rho fraternity, the Theta Tau engineering fraternity, the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club, and was a life member of the American Society for Metals. Lloyd was a member of the Montville Township Juvenile Conference Committee and was active on the Towaco Boy Scout Troop Committee and in other troop activities. He was an avid outdoorsman, an active hiker, canoer and birder but his life-long obsessions that formed a continuous thread through his life were fly fishing, grouse hunting and racing sailboats of the Thistle Class. Lloyd is survived by his beloved wife Barbara Munn Kitchin; devoted son Dr. A. Lloyd Kitchin and his wife Carol, his 4 loving grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his son Jeffrey Bonner Kitchin who passed in 1985. Friends may call Wednesday, April 20th, 2016 from 6-9pm at the Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St., Sparta, NJ 07871. A funeral service will be held on Thursday April 21st at 11am at the funeral home followed by interment at Sparta Cemetery.
