Alfred Dehlinger of Sparta passed into eternal rest on April 21, 2014. Born October 6, 1940 to Alfred Dehlinger and Lorraine Butler, he was a resident of Staten Island, NY until moving to Sparta in 2004. He attended New Dorp High School and enlisted into the U.S. Air Force where he served four years, both in the US and in Guam, being Honorably Discharged in 1962. He proudly served the NYPD as Detective for 23 years, during which he earned a degree in Criminal Justice from John Jay College. In 1986, following his retirement from the NYPD, he served for more than twenty years as an intake counselor and project manager for the Staten Island office of Treatment Alternatives for Street Crimes. He was awarded The Thomas J. Wilson Award for outstanding professional service while serving the community in this capacity. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Deirdre Elizabeth, his sister Joan Manley and his parents. He is survived by his former spouse Jennifer, daughter Deborah DeBuc, grandsons Stephen DeBuc and Anthony Morris, a brother Robert and sister Lorraine Cangro, along with nephew Richard Manley, niece Suzanne Knudsen and several cousins. Alfred was an avid sports fan and spent many an afternoon cheering on the Sparta High school teams as well as being an avid New York Yankee fan. He came to love Sparta and was more than willing to share his "war stories" from his years on the NYPD to anyone who wanted to listen. He was frequently seen driving the country roads of Sussex County to enjoy the scenery and unfettered travel. My Dear Cousin Gop,
I am saddened by your passing, yet passing is part of our journey into another chapter of our lives, another fork in the road. You were a wonderful person and I will miss you, dear cousin, but I will see you again one day.

The tide recedes but leaves behind
bright seashells on the sand.
The sun goes down, but gentle
warmth still lingers on the land.
The music stops, and yet it echoes
on in sweet refrains.....
For every joy that passes,
something beautiful remains.

Rainbows

Rainbows would never be rainbows,
If sunshine had never met rain.
No one would ever need comfort,
If there was no sadness and pain.

But life holds both sunshine and showers.
The days aren't all bright and fair.

So look through the showers for the rainbows
You'll always find hope shining there.

Rest in Peace Pa.

You'll be missed but never forgotten.

Deborah
