Our Mother, Anna Steyh (born Zoufal) passed away quietly on December 7th in our loving arms and hearts. She was a resident of Sparta for 43 years. Anna was born June 2, 1928 in Wostitz, Moravia, Czechoslovakia to Johann and Elisabeth (Pipp) Zoufal. At the age of 14 she attended trade school and worked as a governess for an American Red Cross official in Vienna Austria. After WWII she was reunited with her family in Zellhausen, West Germany where she met and married our Dad, Oscar W. Steyh in 1951. They were the proprietors of a bakery and small farm and had four children. In 1956, they immigrated to the United States and lived in Paterson New Jersey for 12 years and had two more children. In 1968 they moved to Sparta, New Jersey and opened Steyh’s Bakery which they managed for 21 years until she retired. Anna was a communicant of the Our Lady of the Lake Church and Altar Rosary Society in Sparta NJ. Mom is now with our Dad, her oldest son ; Adam, her two brothers and her parents. She is survived by three daughters Christa, Margaret, and Ann, two sons Adolf and Frank, two son-in-laws Donald and Jon, and one daughter-in-law Janet. Her grandchildren are Carli, Anna, John, Stephanie, Ashley, Jared and Ian. Her great-grandchildren are Danielle, Gracie, and Byron. Family and friends are invited Thursday, from 9 to 10:30 am to Goble Funeral Home 22 Main Street Sparta, NJ 07871 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am from Our Lady of the Lake Church, Sparta. Interment will be in Sparta Cemetery. Memorial contributions are being accepted in Anna’s name to the American Heart Association 1 Union Street, Suite 301, Robbinsville, NJ 08691.
