Bernard “Bob” Mitchell, 88, of Sparta passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2018. He was born in Kearny, NJ. Bob then moved to Pompton Plains, graduated from Butler High School in 1947 and then moved to Freehold. Soon after his graduation, Bob worked for the Newark Evening News as a copy boy. He then enlisted in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, Bob continued working for the Newark Evening News as a reporter and photographer. In 1976 he started his own Real Estate office in Sparta called Bob Mitchell Real Estate. Bob is survived by his beloved wife Catherine (nee Doyle) of 65 years, his children Robert Mitchell, William Mitchell, and Patricia Kroeger; his siblings Richard from Arizona, John and his wife Adrian from Florida, and Elinor Baggett. He is also survived by his three grandchildren Mary Mitchell, Michael and Hayley Kroeger. Bob was predeceased by his brother Joseph.
Visitation will be held on Monday October 15, 2018 from 4 – 8PM at Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St., Sparta, NJ 07871. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday at Our Lady of the Lake Church, 294 S Sparta Ave, Sparta, NJ 07871 at 11:00AM. Interment will follow at Sparta Cemetery.
