Carmen A. Colon Cortes

On August 15th 2024, the day of the Assumption of Mary, Carmen Aida Colon Cortes, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother passed away peacefully in the city of Newton, New Jersey, with several of her children and grandchildren at her side. She was 90.

Carmen, known to everyone as Yiayia, is survived by her eight children, Julio , Carmen, Richard, Willie, Victor, Roberto, Elsa, and Aida. She has thirty-one grandchildren, thirty-seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren .

Yiayia was known for her generous, light-hearted and compassionate soul. She loved the simple things in life and spending time with her precious family. Yiayia touched the hearts of many through her cooking. She was a devout catholic and had a special relationship with God. Her favorite time of year was Christmas, which she loved to celebrate with her grandchildren.

Mom, (Yiayia), we will miss your beautiful smile, your pure heart and your cooking. But we will never forget your love, laughter and strength as it will always be in our hearts.

A visitation for Carmen will be held Tuesday, August 20, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main Street, Sparta, NJ 07871. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00am Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church, 294 S Sparta Ave, Sparta, NJ. Interment will follow at Good Shepherd Catholic Cemetery, in Andover, NJ.
