Daniel Jay Sandford

Daniel Jay Sandford, 62, of Greensboro, North Carolina, formerly of Piscataway, NJ, passed away on March 7, 2018 at W. G. Bill Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury, North Carolina. Dan was born in New Brunswick, NJ, graduated from Newton High School, class of 1973, and joined the United States Navy in 1975, proudly serving his country, as both an active and a reserve for 9 years. After returning from the Navy he attended the University of North Carolina, in Greensboro. Dan worked as a self-employed contractor and loved woodworking. Most of all, he loved his family. Dan is predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Dolores Sandford, brothers: Joseph and Timothy Sandford, his sister Joanna Sandford and mother-in-law, Fanny Mae Riddle. He is survived by his devoted wife Fanny Riddle Sandford of Greensboro, NC; son Joseph D. Sandford of Swartswood, NJ; step-daughter Shannon Wyrick, grandchildren Hayden Haas and Nova Pinnix of North Carolina, his sister Mary Pierro and her husband Rob of Stillwater, NJ, sister-in-law Rose P. Sandford of Swartswood, NJ, Stephen and Jean Sandford of West Virginia; Christopher Sandford of Blairstown, NJ; Patrick and Pamela Sandford of South Carolina, sister-in-laws Beverley and Fred Culp and Sherry Stamatakis of North Carolina, father-in-law George Edward Riddle, and his best friend Wesley Steed of North Carolina, as well as, several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to celebrate the life of Daniel from 9-10:30am Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at the Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St, Sparta, NJ 07871. A funeral mass will follow at 11:30am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 203 Newton Swartswood Rd, Newton, NJ 07877. Interment will follow at Stillwater Cemetery.
