Doris Jean Kepler (nee Maechtle) 92, formerly of Orange, NJ and Denville, NJ, passed away on July 23, 2021 at her home in Sparta, NJ, where she raised her family and lived until her death. She passed peacefully at home with her loved ones around her.
Doris was a homemaker, but spent much of her time volunteering and doing charity work. She was very active in the Sparta United Methodist Church and ran the Church Mouse thrift shop for many years. She was also active in the Sussex County Help line, People Help, and the Manna House soup kitchen in Newton. Prior to having children, she was a Supervisor at Bell Telephone.
Doris enjoyed reading, doing crosswords, gardening, traveling and spending time with her family of 3 children, 6 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren, all of whom live locally.
Doris was predeceased by her loving husband Stephen E. Kepler, who passed away in 1997, and she will be laid to rest next to him. She was also predeceased by her sister, Ellie Lynch, of Denville, NJ.
She is survived by her daughters Karen Kepler and Denise (Kepler) Ilavsky, and her son Stephen J. Kepler. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren – Jeffrey Kepler (and wife Ellie), Stephen E. Kepler, Meghan Kepler, Max Ilavsky, Caroline Kepler, and Cameron Ilavsky, as well as 2 great grandchildren, Emma Kepler and Mackenzie Kepler.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 28, 2021 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St., Sparta, NJ 07871. A funeral service will be held 11AM, Thursday, July 29th at Goble Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at Sparta Cemetery.
