Sparta- Dorothy Dedrick (Dooley), died peacefully at home with her family on Tuesday January 28, 2014 at her residence. She was 81. Dorothy was born in New York City, New York, and moved to Mount Arlington, NJ in 1961. She retired to Naples, Florida in 1992, and then moved to Sparta in 1996.
Dot lived a very vibrant life surrounded by family and friends who loved her dearly. Her life was one of giving. After her distinguished career as a tax assessor and real estate appraiser, she embraced her retirement. She worked tirelessly in support of her charitable causes, including Project Self- Sufficiency and the Sparta Women’s Club. She had a passion for learning and travel. Dot was an artist and an avid reader. She will truly be missed by all that knew and loved her. Dot is predeceased by her husband Edward McCarthy, and second husband William Dedrick. Surviving Dorothy is her son; Christopher McCarthy and his wife Susan of Jefferson Township, NJ, and her daughter: Helene McCarthy McGill and her husband Joseph of Sparta, NJ. Four grandchildren; Devan and Justin McCarthy, and Kate and Alex McGill. Cousins; Edward Piza, Marie Martin Hall, Carol and Florence McDonald. A 9:30 am Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church Sparta, followed by Interment in Sparta Cemetery.
