I just learned of Dr. Schaberg's death. I was one of the first babies he delivered at Holy Name in 1940. Dr. Schaberg continued to be my family's doctor for the next 49 years! When my dad had an infection and was running a high fever in 1986, I was talking to my parents from California. I told my mother that she had to call the doctor and I would get back to her in 45 minutes to see what was happening. When I called back, I spoke to Dr. S. who had made a house call to their home in Cresskill! Amazing diagnostician - fantastic human. We owe him a lot of gratitude. I just came upon a letter, written by Dr. Schaberg to my husband, Howard Duffy, in 1996, which prompted me to google his name. I was so saddened to hear of his death, such a short time ago -- I would so liked to have paid my respects. My husband and I were patients of Dr. Schaberg's for years -- until his retirement, actually -- and my husband had painted a portrait of the doctor's children sometime in the 1950's. Please accept my sincere condolences. Jacquelin Duffy

Dr Schaberg was our family physician, treating my grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, my brothers and sisters and I. My siblings and I still speak of and remember fondly Dr and Mrs Schaberg (house calls). Till this day we haven't found a physician who measures up to this great doctor and his lovely wife for the care that they provided to us all. Since Dr Schaberg retired I have tried no less than 8 primary care doctors. With each new attempt to find a replacement, I realize that there is no replacement. Funny, I tell each new doctor that I was a patient of the great retired Dr. Schaberg. The entire Alpher family wishes the Schaberg family our deepest sympathy and gratitude. Rest in Peace Dr Schaberg.

I was saddened to hear of your loss, and felt I had to share how special your father and grandfather, Dr. Schaberg was to our family. He took care of our entire family for many years in Hackensack, and yes, there was never another doctor who could compare to Dr. Schaberg. When my sister was diagnosed with Leukemia at 2 years old, Dr. Schaberg exhibited such compassion and never stopped trying to find another protocol to help her. He came to the house at any hour of the day or night if someone fell ill. He was such a brilliant, wonderful man who I am sure must fill you with pride. May happy memories guide you through this sorrowful time.
Wishing your family strength and peace, Gail (Bassano) Kriftner
