Howard F. Maroney, formerly of Hemlock Farms, PA, and Guttenberg, NJ, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2025, at the age of 82.
Born in Bronx, New York, on April 22, 1943, Howard was the son of William J. Maroney and Margaret Murphy. He lived a full and generous life marked by service, devotion, and quiet wisdom. From 1961 to 1964, he proudly served in the United States Navy as a Fireman aboard the USS Pocono, a chapter of his life he remembered with pride.
Howard dedicated over 30 years to the New York Life Insurance Company, working at its iconic headquarters—the New York Life Building on Madison Avenue in New York City. It was there that he met the love of his life, Helen Hennigan. The two recently celebrated 43 years of marriage on June 6—a partnership built on laughter, mutual respect, and shared adventures.
A man of enduring intellect and steady compassion, Howard was always the one family and friends turned to when they needed advice or answers. “Ask Uncle Howard” became a family refrain—because more often than not, he truly did know. Yet his knowledge was always paired with humility; he never judged, only guided. He was a mentor to many, a role model to all, and—without question—the smartest man in any room.
Howard had a deep love for travel, especially with his beloved Helen. Kismet, Fire Island, held a special place in his heart, where he relished time spent with family and friends. His home and his heart were always open—everyone was welcome, always.
He is survived by his loving wife, Helen; his brother Donald and Donald’s wife Jane; and by many adoring nieces and nephews for whom he was a great uncle and lifelong guide. He was present for every family celebration, a quiet pillar of strength and joy, and his legacy of kindness, wisdom, and generosity will continue to shine through all who knew him.
Howard's life was a beautiful example of how to lead with grace, listen with patience, and love without limit. He will be deeply missed.
A visitation for Howard will be held Saturday, June 14, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St, Sparta, New Jersey 07871. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM at Northern New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 75 N Church Rd, Sparta, NJ 07871.
