

Sparta, NJ- Dr. Howard Francis O’Gorman peacefully passed on Friday, February 17, 2017 at home with his beloved wife and family by his side. He was 84 years old. Dr. O’Gorman was born in Jersey City, NJ to Howard O’Gorman Sr. and Helen (Murray) O’Gorman. He attended Seton Hall Preparatory School and Seton Hall University in West Orange, NJ and graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery from Loyola Dental School (now LSU) in New Orleans, LA. He resided in Sparta for the past 55 years. Dr. O’Gorman served his country proudly in the US Army having served during the Korean War and stationed on the Artic Dew Line in Point Barrow Alaska during the Cold War. He was a Major in the Army Dental Corps. Dr. O’Gorman’s life passion was antique car restoration and collecting. He served as Chaplain of Newton American Legion Post 86, and a member of the American Dental Association. He has been the longest practicing dentist in Sussex County, and cared very deeply for his patients. Predeceasing him is a sister; Patricia Smith. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Patricia (Morrissey) O’Gorman. Two sons; John O’Gorman and his wife Laurie of Green Township, NJ, and Allan O’Gorman and Jane O’Gorman both of Andover Borough, NJ. Two daughters, Helene Riedel and husband Andrew of Leonia, NJ and Kathleen Catanzaro and husband Eugene of Collingswood, NJ. Seven grandchildren, Kevin and Kaitlyn O’Gorman, William and Patricia O’Gorman, Nolen and Maggie Riedel, and Timothy Walsh-Catanzaro, and a brother, Michael O’Gorman. Family and friends are invited Monday Feb, 20 from 2~4 7~9 pm with an American Legion service at 7:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Tuesday 10 am from Our Lady of the Lake RC Church, Sparta followed by interment in Good Shepherd Cemetery, Green Township, NJ. A repast will be held at Lake Mohawk Country Club at 12:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice Foundation 99 Sparta Rd Newton, NJ 07860.
