Janet B. Russell

Janet was born in Dayton, Ohio to the late Benjamin F. and Stella Mae (Slaght) Burt. The family later moved to Rochester, New York, where she attended the University of Rochester and graduated in 1937, after spending a year travelling with The National Children’s Theatre Company. Janet moved to New Jersey after her marriage and lived in Elizabeth, Fanwood, and Mountainside. She was active in the Westfield Community Theater and co-authored plays with her mother as well as performing in some of them.

Janet moved to Sparta in 1959 and became a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sparta where she was active in the choir, Presbyterian Women and as a Sunday School Teacher.

Janet moved to Bristol Glen upon its opening in 2001.

Besides her parents, Janet was predeceased by her beloved husband Francis (Russ); her brother James C. Burt; and her daughter-in-law Cindy Russell. She is survived by her children: Kyle Russell and his wife Sharon; Beverly Bennett and her husband Frank; Glenn Russell and his wife Bonnie; Brian Russell and his wife Tammy; and Deborah Russell. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 11am at the First Presbyterian Church of Sparta.
