

Born on June 21, 1940, to Riccardo and Elena Leccacorvi, John was raised with a strong family value and dedication to service and science that would define his life.
John pursued his education through the parochial school system and went on to graduate from Boston College with a degree in chemistry. During the Vietnam Conflict, he was called to serve his country in the United States Army and was stationed at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. There, he served in the Army’s science and engineering program, applying his academic training to support national defense efforts.
Following his honorable military service, John began a distinguished civilian career at the Chemistry Department of Picatinny Arsenal in Dover, New Jersey. Over the years, he earned numerous awards for his contributions and innovations. John rose through the ranks to the position of an Associate Technical Director and finally to the position of Executive Assistant to the Technical Director and was given responsibility for the Professional Development of the workforce. Upon his retirement in 2000, John was honored with the Department of Army Medal of Superior Civilian Service, a reflection of his exceptional dedication and performance.
On April 9, 1977, John married Elizabeth (Betty) Boyd in Dover, NJ. Together, they made their home in Oak Ridge, NJ.
John is predeceased by his son, Garry, and his sister Rita. He is survived by his devoted wife, Betty; daughter Barbara and her husband Ed Ackerman of Denville, NJ; his daughter Jo-Ann and her husband Joe Rebecky of Rockaway, NJ.; and his sister Jo-Ann and her husband Jack Martin of North Carolina.
He also leaves behind four cherished grandchildren: Jessica, Ryan, Hannah and Xavier, as well as his much-loved niece and nephews and their spouses: Ellen and Chris Gantner, John and Amy Martin, and Michael and Kristen Martin. All of whom have brought great pride and joy to his life.
John will be remembered for his sharp mind, quiet strength, deep integrity and unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those he touched through his work, service, and devotion.
When asked what John considered to be his most significant accomplishments over his lifetime he answered, "Having the good fortune to have the parents I had, my marriage to Betty and watching my children and grandchildren grow.”

A service will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 11AM at Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church, 321 Oak Ridge Road Oak Ridge, NJ 07438.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in John's memory to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
