

John J. Luba, Jr., 82 of Sparta passed away at home on September 13, 2013. Born in Frankin Hospital and was a lifelong resident of Sparta. He was graduate of Newton High School and attended Newark College of Engineering. He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and immediately upon discharge, went to work at Picatinny Arsenal as a Mechanical Engineer until his retirement in 1986. After retirement, he owned and operated his own businesses in Sparta, including the Sparta Gulf Service Station on Woodport Road. He then held several other jobs throughout the county.
A dedicated volunteer fireman for Sparta Township for 55 years and served as Chief in 1981.
John is predeceased by his beloved wife of 55 years, Barbara J. (nee Eckert) Luba. Survived by his children, Lori Luba of Sparta, Jay Luba and his wife of Sparta, Amy Lowery and her husband of Dillsburg, PA and Mark Luba and his wife of Phoenix, AZ, and 7 grandchildren.
Friends may call Tuesday, September 17th at 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St., Sparta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday 10am September 18th at the Lady of Our Lake Church in Sparta. Interment will follow at the Sparta Cemetery.
