September 18, 1939 – May 22, 2020
Cranberry Lake, NJ Kathleen Ann Nifenecker, beloved Sister, Mom, Grandma, Aunt, Godmother, and Friend, passed away May 22, 2020 after a brief illness. She was 80 years old.
The daughter of the late Thomas J. and Irene O’Hare Burke, and sister of the late Thomas J. Burke Jr., Kathleen was born September 18, 1939 in Staten Island, NY. She grew up in the “Four Corners”, Richmond Terrace, section there and she loved to tell stories of her many adventures taking the Staten Island Ferry into New York City and sneaking into the Apollo to see her favorite musicians. She loved music and loved to dance, once performing her “Tap Routine” on TV! She would also spend time in the country with her Mom, Dad & Older Brother Tom at what would eventually become her forever home, Cranberry Lake, NJ. Where she loved the Clubhouse and was a lifelong CLCC member.
Kathleen graduated from St. Joseph Hill Academy and went onto Nursing School before marrying Richard E. Nifenecker and starting a family in Old Bridge, NJ. They later moved to Cranberry Lake and settled down. Kathleen was an active member of her community volunteering her time for such causes as Byram’s Public Library, B.A.R.K.S, Hospice, Meals on Wheels and “Momming” many, many Andover/Byram Little League sports seasons. She was also very active in and loved her church, Good Shephard in Andover. Travelling was her true passion and she organized church trips to Europe, Israel and Ireland.
Over the years she worked at Perkin Elmer in Flanders, she was an in-home nurse, and she eventually retired as Manager of her Son’s bakery, Café Pierrot. But most importantly she was Kathy, Mrs. Nif, Aunt Kathy, Grandma, and Mom to so many.
Kathleen is survived by 5 children. Linda Compton, Kathleen Gleckler, Chuck Nifenecker, Rick Nifenecker and Tom Nifenecker. Her 3 daughters-in-law, Lori, Laura & Melissa. Two sons-in-laws, Scott and Mike. As well as, many Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews.
