

home in North Carolina on April 27th. Leonard was the son of the late Clarke and Jenny Peck
and the loving husband of the late Eleanor Carlson Peck. He was predeceased by his three
daughters, Joan Mazalatis, Susan Amantea and Joyce Peck.! !
Leonard was a World War II veteran having served in the Army as a scout in the Philippines and
New Guinea. Leonard was a true war hero and received many medals for his dedicated service
to our country.! !
Leonard had a passion for history, especially that of Sussex County. He spent countless hours
volunteering his time bringing history to life. Leonard was president of the Walpack Historical
Society for many years. He received the Volunteer of the Year award from the National Park
Service in 1996.! !
Leonard is survived by his six grandchildren, John Hogan and his wife Pam, of Stroudsburg, Pa,
Lisa Dubinski and her husband Mark of Henderson, NC, Suzanne Vence and her husband Rick,
of Brodheadsville, PA, Laura Herrick and her husband Howard of Basking Ridge, NJ, Larry
Mazalatis and his wife Kathy of Summerville, SC, and Christian Amantea and his wife Jennifer
of Greenwich, CT. He is also survived by his sister, Elsene Wiessner of Reno, NV, son-in-law,
Larry Mazalatis of Hopatcong and twelve great grandchildren.! !
A memorial service and celebration of Leonard’s life will be held Saturday, May 17th, at 11am at
Goble Funeral Parlor, 22 Main Street, Sparta, NJ. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to
