

Leonard Marinus Tamboer, 99, died peacefully surrounded by family and friends at his home in Sparta, NJ. A Paterson native, Tamboer was the son of Mary Grimshaw Tamboer and Leonard Henry Tamboer. Leonard began his career as a machinist at Curtiss-Wright Corporation, Wright Aeronautical Division. After 46 years, he retired as the President of Local 669, UAW. Leonard is predeceased by his 1st wife, Ruth May Tamboer (1969) and granddaughter, Nancy Ellen Baxter (1976). He leaves his wife of 35 years, Louise D. Tamboer, daughter Geraldine Baxter and her husband Donald, of West Milford, NJ; son, Leslie Tamboer and his wife Carol, of Venice, FL; daughter, Margaret Tamboer of Hampton, NJ; son Fred Petruzzi of Hackensack, NJ; daughter Leslie McHale of Fort Lee, NJ; and daughter Lori Schneider of Wharton, NJ. He was the grandfather of Deborah Lisa, Leonard Baxter, Leonard Tamboer, Ruth Davis, Christina Tamboer, Gary Tamboer, Caroline Hailey, and Kurt Schneider, great-grandfather of 19, and great-great-grandfather to six. An avid reader, Tamboer pored over books about World War II aviation, sport hunting and fishing. A true outdoors-man, he loved animals and communing with nature. He was a gifted story teller and builder, designing and constructing outdoor decks, beautiful stone walls, and even a bridge on his property. A Saturday 9 am funeral service will be held at Green Pond Bible Chapel 1083 Green Pond Rd Newfoundland, NJ 07435, followed by interment in Laurel Grove Cemetery, Totowa, NJ.
