

Newton- Mary Rose A. Conklyn (nee Quirke), of Bristol Glen went home to the Lord on Saturday, February 7, 2015. She was 93. Mary Rose previously resided in Sparta, and Bergenfield, NJ. She was a parishioner of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church, where she was a Eucharistic Minister. Mrs. Conklyn was born on November 26, 1921 in Louisville, KY To John S. & Virginia P. Quirke (Ahearn). Throughout her life, Mary Rose spent countless summers at the family home on Shelter Island, a place she cherished greatly. Prior to raising her family, she worked as a legal secretary in New York City. Mary Rose was the wife of the late William E. Conklyn. They were married on October 5, 1946 and were married 54 years until his death on November 7, 2000. Together, they moved their growing family away from New York to Maryland, and then to Kentucky before settling in New Jersey. While raising her family in Bergenfield, Mary Rose was an active volunteer for the Bergenfield Little League Women’s Auxiliary, serving multiple terms as President. She joined the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and was very proud of her 40-year membership. At various times, she held the offices of President and Secretary for her CDA court. Mary Rose will be forever loved in the hearts of her seven devoted children: Elizabeth D. Conklyn, Maryrose J. Conklyn, Barbara J. Vandenbergh (Robert), William E Conklyn III (Donna), Christopher W. Conklyn, Anne T. Skarbowski (David), Timothy M. Conklyn (Carmella). She dearly cherished her 15 grandchildren and step- grandchildren: Morgan (Noelle), Eric (Darlene), Siobhan (Jason), William E. IV, Ryan (Courtney), Jaimee, Kevin, Michael, William G. (Trish), Michelle, Matthew, Edward, Robert, Gerard and leo. She was a very proud great-grandmother to Holly, Travis, John, Alexander and Sean. Mary Rose always enjoyed loving relationships with her five siblings and their spouses: Virginia P. Dubatowka, Geraldine F. Goodleaf, Elizabeth A. DeMarco, John S. Quirke (Mary Ann), Kevin P. Quirke (Cathe), and also loved, her many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited Wednesday, 5~8 pm Goble Funeral Home 22 Main Street Sparta, NJ 07871. A 10 AM Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday from Saint Kateri Tekakwitha RC Church 427 Stanhope Rd Sparta, NJ, followed by interment in Sparta Cemetery.
