Michael Charles Petershack

Mike was raised in Oak Ridge, NJ and is a graduate of Morris County Community College. He served in the Hardyston Police Department, where he retired as a detective. Prior to serving the community, Mike owned and operated a hardwood flooring company and worked for Jefferson Township DPW. Mike married his wife Sharon in 2013, and was blessed with two beautiful children, Ella and Wesley. In 2018, the family moved to Sparta, where he played an integral role in the community, serving as both a softball and hockey coach.

Mike was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He was a competitive archer, who participated in IBO events nationally. For those who knew Mike, he was a perfectionist. He was a “measure 10 times, cutting once person.” Being a passionate woodworker, he could visualize a masterpiece and would not rest until he accomplished greatness. Mike was a problem-solver, who had no issues taking on additional roles and responsibilities in and outside his home. When you needed him, he was there, no questions asked.

Mike loved softball and hockey, where he was a respected coach in both sports. He took this passion and helped bring this to all the lives he guided. He could talk about both for hours and always looked for ways to perfect that softball swing or slapshot. A big accomplishment for him was bringing home the softball championship to Ella’s 10U Sparta Diamonds Team.

Mike leaves behind his wife Sharon, children, Ella and Wesley, Great Aunts, Raina Bauckam and Lana Gletow, and countless friends.

To all his athletes that he coached, remember Coach Mike will always be there with his “2 Thumbs up and a smile.”

Visitation for Michael will be held Wednesday, August 13, 2025 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main Street, Sparta, NJ 07871. A funeral service will occur Thursday, August 14th at 10:30 AM at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 3320 NJ-94, Hamburg, NJ 07419. A graveside service will immediately follow at Holland Cemetery, Holland Mountain Rd, Jefferson, NJ 07460.
