Robert J. Holdsworth, Sr.

Sparta, NJ- Robert J. Holdsworth, Sr. went home to the Lord on Saturday, July 11, 2015. He was 93 years old. Robert was born in Passaic, NJ to James and Susan (Dembowskie) Holdsworth and raised his family in Clifton and Wayne. He resided in Sparta for the last seven years. He previously resided in Spring Lake, NJ, Southport, NC, Coco Beach, FL. He served his country proudly during WW II with the US Marine Corps. He was a graduate of Seton Hall University, and was employed during his career by Chemway, Cooper Labs, Union Camp, International Paper Company and retired in 1987. Robert was a member of the Seton Hall Alumni Association, a parishioner of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha R.C. Church, and active in the Sparta Seniors Center. His beloved wife, Elizabeth Mary (Burrell) Holdsworth, predeceased him in 2000. He is survived by four sons - Robert J. Jr., (Barbara) of Ithaca, NY, William J. (Phyllis) of Sparta, NJ., James E. (Elizabeth) of Lawrenceville, GA, and Thomas J. (Cynthia) of Leesburg, VA.; one daughter - Suzanne Byrd (Jud) of Marietta, OH; fifteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Family and friends are invited Thursday 7~9 p.m. only to Goble Funeral Home 22 Main Street, Sparta, NJ 07871. A 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha R.C. Church, Sparta. Entombment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 25 Ridgedale Ave., East Hanover, NJ.
