My dad Harry smith and Bobby lane were good friends from Hawthorne.  We have pictures of Bobby. Anne and Michelle when my parents took a trip to st Michael’s MD.
My dad always spoke great about his good friend.  My dad passed this January 2023 and sounded like he missed talking to his friend.  Hopefully they’re catching up.

My deepest condolences to you all. We only knew Bob through his service to the church. He was always a gentleman and always greeted us with a smile. We will miss his presence there greatly and I am sorry that we didn't get the chance to know him better.

To the family of Bob Lane -
You don't know me, but I had the priveledge of meeting Bob several years ago one Sunday morning at Our Lady of the Lake church.  My husband was away and I wanted to get to mass, so I got my three kids ready and off we went.  This was the first time I did this by myself because our middle child has special needs and our youngest usually requires parental attention during the mass.  Needless to say, we didn't last very long and I was a bit flustered as we made our way out of the church.  This is when I met Bob.  I will never forget how kind and caring he was and how he made me laugh when I wasn't feeling very happy. It was nice to meet someone who knew exactly what I was experiencing.  I looked forward to seeing his smiling face at mass each Sunday.  He will be greatly missed.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to Bob's whole family and I especially think about his wife and daughter Michele.

This photo is how Tara and I will always remember Bob Lane. He and Anne cleared the dance floor and for all intents and purposes, stole the show at our wedding. Friends of ours, half his age, remarked "I hope I'm just like that guy when I'm his age--he's my new hero." By the end of the night, everyone knew Bob, because he was the kind of guy that you wanted to get to know. And someone who stayed with you, even if you were only fortunate enough to know him for a short time. He will be greatly missed, by many.

To The Lane Family-
Mr. Lane was a wonderful neighbor. He was more then a neighbor, he was part of my extended family in Sparta. I will miss the words of wisdom he had for me each Sunday. He would always tell me that God would reward me for doing the work that I do. Well, what he didn't realize was that God already rewarded me for knowing such a kind and loving man. I am truly blessed for having him in my life. Mr. Lane will be terribly missed every day. He helped me and my family when we needed it the most. I'm sure he and my dad are up there in heaven sitting in their lawn chairs talking up a storm and smiling down on all of us.

Bob  Thank you being our friend and sharing in your generosity. We have known you for many years and always could look to you for your advice. You have done much good in your life for which you are now rewarded.

To the Lane family,

We are so sorry for your loss. We will always remember how Robert expressed his appreciation for us and his buoyant spirit. We feel blessed that we became part of this great man's extended family. Our thoughts and prayers remain with you Anna, Bob, Maureen, Michele and the rest of the family.

Your family meant the world to you and it was easily seen by all you have met and touched. You were always supportive in everything your children and grandchildren did. My dearest Dad Lane,
One of my great blessings in my life was having you as my father-in-law, for you never treated me as an "in-law"...always as a daughter. I treasured our unique bond of having the same birthday, April 9th, and all the celebrations we shared...in fact, you made every day a celebration of life.  Not only did you look at the glass half-full, the glass runneth over.  I can never thank you enough for your abundant love, encouragement, enthusiasm, kindness, generosity, devotion ....the list is endless.  My heart aches for this sudden loss in our lives, but I will find strength from your words that live in my heart and the faith we shared.  You have passed on a wonderful legacy to my loving husband Bob, and I pray our son Brian grows up to be just as compassionate and honorable.  I wish I could give you a big hug, like you always gave me.  I love you dearly and will miss you always.

Train, I never had the pleasure of meeting your father, but in reading the very loving tributes and looking at the photos I can see that he was a very warm and caring man with a love for life. I can see so much of him in you and I am sure it is his influence that made you the good man that you are.  Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers  - I know that his spirit will always be with you - as my father's is always with me, and you will carry on in that spirit. We will miss you dearly.  I will always remember and cherish the wonderful times we had with you, Aunt Anna, and cousins Bob and Maureen, growing up, picnics, fireworks, Yankee games, everything.  You did it all. May you rest in peace.

Bob Lane was a caring, selfless, and compassionate man.  He would truly put his needs before others and was the complete definition of a good neighbor.  He played such an important role in my childhood memories, always caring about me and my sisters.  I thank every day that we had Mr. Lane with us and will always cherish what I learned from my conversationswith him, outside in the driveway.  I cannot thank Mr. Lane and his family enough for all the love and attention given to my parents during a time of need. I am so sorry I cannot be there in person to pay my respects but please know I am there in spirit.  I will never forget him.

Bob I worked with you at Motor Club for 25 yrs and always enjoyed your wit and humor. You always had a positive attitude and always looked at the bright side of everything. I will miss you at our yearly Motor Club pizza get togethers at the Star pizzeria.I know that Jesus is overwelming you with his love right now, you good and faithful servant.I pray that the Lord will ease the pain that I know that your family is going through.

I was so sad to hear of Bob's passing. I remember him for being a very caring and compassionate man.  He will be missed not only by his family and friends, but also by anyone who knew him.

I will try with my young family to teach them the beliefs that you felt were crucial to all families. Mr. Lane was a great mentor to us kids growing up in the neighborhood whether it was coaching us in Baseball or Basketball. I know all of our lives were for the better because he was a part of it. He was a true role model to all of us and will be missed very much.

I will never forget the day I first met your Dad.  He was so warm, funny and made me feel so welcome.  He was such a sweet and funny man that everyone who knew him loved him immediately.  I know this is a very hard time for you right now, but I hope you take comfort in knowing that he is up in heaven (hopefully joking and laughing with my dad), but looking down on you smiling because he is so proud of the wonderful son he created.   I am sure he feels some comfort in knowing that you will be there for your Mom and sister to protect and take care of them, and to be the same special man that he always was.  Please know that you, Roberta, Brian, your Mom, Michelle, Maureen and her family are all in our thoughts, and in our prayers and always know how very much we love you.

I will miss the conversations I had with Mr. Lane every time I was in the neighborhood.  Hard to find people who are as caring as he was.

My Brother-in-law Bob was always up and cheerful and I never knew him to have a bad day (at least he never let on if he did) and he always had something good to say.  He and his lucky wife Anna (one of my sisters), was blessed with 3 wonderful children and 3 wonderful grandchildren.  I will miss him.

Your Dad was a extradorinary man - He touched all who were blessed to know him in a very special way.

My Dad was the greatest father.  He had the biggest heart.  He was always there for me.  He gave me unconditional love with no agendas and no expectations.  He taught me the importance of family.  I feel incredibly blessed to have had such a wonderful father.  You are a great dad & I'm so thankful God gave you to me as a father.  I love you Dad!

Bob's dad is a presence we will miss... until the day we meet again. His smile, energy and outgoing nature made anybody he met feel comfortable. If there's one legacy anybody should leave, it is one that is representative of warmth, welcome and comfort. If any of us can learn from a person's legacy, these qualities are at the top of "the list". We are blessed to have met this man, and know deep in our hearts that he is now where has earned his place- part of the light and love of God.

Mr. Lane, Sr., was truly one of the most memorable father/husband's we've ever met. He was such a remarkable man in how he showed his love and support for his family so unconditionally. He was one of the most pleasant and social individuals to be in the company of. We will always remember him and his family at all the OLM affairs throughout the years, especially precana, when he would attend just to spend the afternoon with his grandson, Brian. And no matter where it was, but usually in group family settings, he would always offer his insight of how important these family and religious values were.  He will always be fondly remembered. Let your light shine up in heaven as it
did here on earth.
