Rosemarie was born in Jersey City, NJ on April 29, 1934 and grew up in Weehawkin, NJ. She began her school career at Holy Family Catholic School in Union City, NJ from 1st to 4th grade. The school burned down at the beginning of 5th grade, and she was transferred to public school and subsequently graduated from Weehawkin High School in 1951.
In 1954, she graduated from Holy Name Hospital of Nursing, and began her mission of working with children in the Pediatric Department there as well as teaching Pediatric Nursing. She later went on to further her studies at Seton Hall University where she worked in various teaching positions, and she became Assistant Director of the School of Nursing in 1965. In 1967, she pursued a Master’s Degree in Parent-Child Health Nursing at New York University, and she graduated from there in 1969.
Rosemarie married Domenic LoMarro on April 23, 1966, and she was blessed with four children: George, Ann, Lisa, and Jean. As her children grew and needed less physical care, she and her husband became foster parents, with a total of 33 additional infants and children passing through their home. It was her mission of selfless love to be a foster parent, which continued until Domenic’s health deteriorated with Alzheimer’s and she had to shift her focus to his constant care.
Rosemarie is survived by her sister Catherine D’Ambro, and she was the loving aunt to many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She has five grandchildren, Wade, Hope, Julie, Emily, and Jessica, whom she cherished with all her heart.
Rosemarie was able to maintain an active social life right up to the time of her death. She was an avid card player, a lover of knitting and crocheting, took art classes, enjoyed reading, sewing, and Jeopardy. She was an active member of Our Lady of the Lake Church in Sparta, volunteering her time to sew baptismal bibs, sell tickets at the church carnival, and she attended weekly scripture classes there. She even developed her own community prayer group to recite the rosary at her apartment complex. She was so well-known in her community, always finding new friends and reaching out a helping hand to those in need.
Rosemarie’s life was defined by strength and determination, along with a love for all humankind, always seeking to put others’ needs above her own.
