Sherrill, known to all as Sherry, was born to Francis and Helen Vintschger of Convent Station, NJ. She attended the Peck School and St. Elizabeth Academy, and enjoyed horseback riding, friends, and time with her aunts and uncles. Saturday lunch at the Old Mill Inn in Basking Ridge with her mother and her mother's sisters was a weekly event for many years.
After attending business school, Sherry joined Allied Chemical in Florham Park, and loved being part of Research and Development department in an administrative role. Tales of doing things like testing the first hula hoop, while entertaining enough, paled to her greatest discovery, a young man named Richard Weed who would become her best friend and husband.
Sherry and her husband started married life on Lake Mohawk, but moved to Fox Hollow where she loved her house on the hill above the lake. She enjoyed spending time with her neighbors and volunteered for the Lake Association. She spent many years as treasurer, but she particularly enjoyed organizing events, everything from luaus, to spaghetti dinners, to lobster bakes to fish fries.
Her home was a gathering place for many generations of her family. One of her greatest joys was having her family gathered around her dining room table and out on the back deck for special occasions and holidays.
She also found time to sing in the choir at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Sparta for 30 years. She served as president of the local chapter of the Arthritis Foundation where she organized seminar luncheons that led to lifelong friendships for many who attended.
Sherry is predeceased by her husband Richard and son, Kevin Weed and is survived by her brother, Franze Vintschger, of Morris Township, NJ. She is also survived by her daughter Cindy Weed, of Sparta and her daughter-in-law Ellen Weed, of Stillwater. She has six grandchildren, Michelle Weed of Camp Hill, PA; Alison Hunter of Williamsport, PA; Ashley Weed of Norristown, PA; Justin Weed of Somerville, NJ; Kate-Lynn of Stillawater, and Emily Weed of East Stroudsburg, PA.
Friends may visit with the family and pay their respects on Tuesday, June 22 from 11 am until 12:45 pm at the Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St, Sparta, NJ 07871. There will then be a service at 12:45 pm followed by interment at Sparta Cemetery.
