Lafayette NJ: Thomas Serdechny, 86 of Lafayette NJ, passed away on October 10, 2013. Raised in Hartford CT, Tom was born to the late Lawrenty (Michael) and Anna (Reznick) Serdechny. He attended Hartford High School and received his BA in Education from Hillyer College, University of Hartford in Connecticut and had accomplished advanced coursework in mathematics at Temple, Villanova and Penn State Universities. Tom proudly served our country in three branches of the armed services Army, Marines and Air Force during the Korean Conflict and received the Presidents Unit Citation. Tom was employed at Pratt Whitney from 1952 to 1955 and employed as a civil servant with the US government from 1966 to 1990 and served as a mathematician/statistician and reliability engineer for Picatinny Arsenal for 11 years. Tom was an active member of Toast Masters. He had a great love for learning and mathematics and generously enjoyed sharing his expertise with others. He was predeceased by his wife of over 30 years Claire (Wald) Serdechny in 1997. Tom described Claire as “his guiding light” she was the love of his life. Tom is also predeceased by his siblings Alice Baron, Mary Balke, John Serdechny and Nicholas Serdechny. Tom is survived by his brother Alexander Serdechny and his wife Marion, niece Anne Bernier and her husband Michael and nephews John and James Serdechny and their families and neice Joan Wood of Vermont. Additionally, Tom is survived by his niece Jacqui Gieske and nephew Russ Johnson and their families.Friends and family are invited to Goble Funeral Home Sparta, NJ on Saturday at 9am followed by a service at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Hatboro Cemetery, Hatboro, Pa.
