Tom was born June 1, 1947 in Brooklyn NY to Tom Gibbons, Sr. and Miriam Murphy Gibbons. He graduated from Brooklyn Prep in 1965, and then received his Bachelors of Science in Chemistry from Saint Peter’s College in Jersey City, NJ in 1969. While there, Tom joined the ROTC and then served two years in the army as a First Lieutenant.
Tom began his career in chemical sales at Diamond Shamrock, then moved to Arizona Chemical, eventually leaving the chemical industry to start his own business, Cornerstone Associates, focused on sales training and management consulting. He also served as a board member of Bank Julius Baer, now Aberdeen, for more than thirty years.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Tom’s passions included golf, woodworking, telling jokes (sometimes repeatedly), and magic tricks. Tom was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and cherished his St. Kateri and Sparta community – always ready to offer his services as an Emcee at the annual Kateri Kapers or any other stage that was available – ready to entertain and bring joy to those around him.
But what he will be remembered for most was his commitment to perfecting his famous Gibby’s Knock Your Socks Off cookie. More than a cookie, it was Tom’s signature way of showing his love and appreciation for all who received them.
Tom is survived by his loving partner of 30 years, Nancy Wisby; his sister Judy Zerbo (nee Gibbons); his children, Father Tom Gibbons, CSP, Kelly Kavanagh (John) and Tracey Streck (Sean); nephew Rich Zerbo; and his grandchildren Eamon, Lizzie & Delia Kavanagh, Kiera, John & Fiona Streck. He was preceded in death by his parents Miriam and Tom.
