Arild was born March 29th, 1947 in Stravanger, Norway. He and his parents, Reidar and Edith Johnsen immigrated to Seattle,WA. He learned to walk on the ship to America. He grew up in Ballard and went to Ballard High. He competed in down hill skiing. He liked track, hiking and the outdoors.
He leaves behind his wife Nancy 47 years, his son Jan Johnsen, daughters Kristina McMullen, Kellie Green, stepdaughter Shelbie Rabe, grandchildren Tim (Hannah) Ashley, Ben, Sarah, great grandchildren Miles and Malcom and sister Helene.
Arild worked as a Merchant Seaman with Mobile Oil. He loved being at sea. He was a good craftsman and ran several shops ending with his own. In retirement he liked to sail and take black and white photography; he had several shows in Seattle and California.
He enjoyed living at Deep Lake in Colville WA for the last 17 years.
