June 4, 1933-January 22, 2024
Carl Gustav Lind Jr. was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on June 4, 1933, to Dorothy and Carl G Lind Sr. They moved to Spokane WA when he was eight years old. At age 19 he was drafted into the Army, serving in Korea. He joined the Army National Guard, retired after 21 years of service. He was a proud veteran, saluting every flag he saw. In 1964, Carl began working for Acme Concrete Company. He started in dispatch, then drove trucks, worked in sales, and managed a new plant in Richland WA, before retiring as V.P. of Sales in 1986. He spent the next 37 years making a difference in the Spokane community one relationship at a time. He served on the Spokane Interstate Fair Board and was a founding Board member of the Public Facilities District for the new Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena. Carl also served on the Salvation Army Advisory Board for over 40 years sharing his passion for their work for the Lord every chance he had, especially their care for children at Sally’s House. He was honored with the William Booth lifetime achievement award in 2011. As a Shriner, he also supported the Shriners Hospital for Children. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran church and a great supporter of their outreach in Spokane Valley. He founded the Inland Empire Mustang Club when he returned to Spokane in 1980 with his collection of cars, advertising in the newspaper for anyone interested in starting a club. Three people responded and the club celebrated its 40 year anniversary this last year, with over 125 family memberships. An avid antique collector and history buff, he enjoyed sharing his passion and knowledge with everyone. He loved people and making new friends. Most of all he loved his family: his wife Lynne of 56 years, his son, Aaron and wife Lisa, children Callista, Zoe and Cooper Lind; daughter, Andrea and husband Matt, children Thaddeus (Adeline), Madeline and Abram McKinney; son Fred and wife Treva, children Cameron and Kelby. He is greatly missed, but we do not grieve as those without hope, for we know he is with his Savior and Lord, Jesus. And we will see him and hear his laughter again! In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Salvation Army Sally’s House at 222E Indiana, Spokane, WA 99207. A service will be held February 8 at 10:30 a.m. at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery with a memorial remembering Carl held at a later date in early March at Redeemer Lutheran church.
