Charles James Hunter 11- 6-1924 – 2-18-2018

Charles was born in Seattle to Ellen Christenson Hunter & Charles Caldwell Hunter.

Charles (Chuck) grew up during the Great Depression. After losing his father at age 9, Chuck joined his mom and two sisters in persevering through those difficult years. Chuck attended Franklin HS, before joining the Navy for service in World War II . After returning, Chuck attended Seattle Pacific College, earning a degree in Zoology. Prior to returning to serve in the Korean War he proposed to Pauline Rosene and they married in 1952.

Chuck spent over 30 years serving in the Department of Fisheries. His job took him to Alaska which initiated his love affair with Alaska and its people.

In 1955, Chuck and Polly built a home in Bellevue and remained there for 52 years. They were charter members of Newport Covenant Church. They served for years in Covenant Missions in Alaska and in Christian camping programs as well as volunteering with Young Life.

After 80 years in the Puget Sound region Chuck moved to his beloved little farm in Spokane where he spent his remaining 13 years. After the passing of his wife of 54 years, Chuck married a long time friend, Jane Nelson with whom he enjoyed his last nine years in Spokane. They were members of Foothills Community Church.

Chuck was proceeded in death by his mother and father, two sisters, Margaret and Dorothy and his wife Pauline. He is survived by his wife, Jane Nelson, daughter Kim Bowser (Bill), son Kevin Hunter (Kim), six grandchildren – Stephen, Bryn, Michael, Zach, Katherine and Callison, four great-grandchildren, Hunter, Axel, Lutece, and Camden

Grampa Chuck will be deeply missed. His abiding love for his entire family and his passion and relentless service in the name of Jesus Christ, was a great model and legacy for us all. Thanks Dad!

Services will be held Saturday, March 24 at 11 am at Foothills Community Church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Foothills Community Church or Young Life.

I always enjoyed talking with both Chuck and Polly, for the many years they were at Newport Covenant Church. He and she were both very welcoming. Chuck always brought up ideas to get us to think. I recall Chuck asking if they could have a photo taken of them, since they were not able to come to the Newport Directory photo sessions at church. So I set up the equipment at home for their portrait. The photo I am attaching was from a 1992 directory I did the photos for.
A special time I remember was at a Christmas Luncheon, that I brought my elderly mother to, Polly held her hand as we walked down the hallway, to make her feel very welcome and loved, in an unfamiliar place. I missed them both when they moved to Spokane, but was so glad to hear how much they loved their new place, when they visited us at Newport. Thinking of you and sending prayers.

In 1998/1999 Chuck and Polly invited us to their house for meals and to church when we could go. We are grateful for their love and care to us when our son Jeremiah was going through cancer treatment in Seattle. Please accept our condolences to Jane and Chuck's family. Love from Anna and Ted Moore from Nome, Alaska.

Love your whole family! Love that Chuck spoke his mind, was passionate about Jesus and sharing the gospel, was my dads best friend for most of their adult life, loved adventures with both families at Circle C. Their home in Bellevue was where the young adults were meeting the week I met Mark. His first time at a Newport event so I met my husband at Chuck and Polly’s house, loved that Chuck had such a good sense of humor and such a big smile. I already had been missing him and Polly since they moved but now will miss the occasional meet up in Spokane that we have had over the last few years.
God bless you all.

I have fond memories of Chuck at Newport Covenant Church. Chuck brought me into our Live Nativity program and we worked together in that ministry for many years. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
