Charles was born December 8, 1940, in Big Spring Township, Shelby County, Illinois, to Naomi Gail Keller and William G. Rentfro – the first of seven siblings. He passed away peacefully on January 10, 2024.
After high school graduation, Charles joined the Air Force where he spent time in Taiwan, Utah, and California. While in Utah, Charles married Ann B. Nelson on May 15, 1964. They eventually settled in Spokane, Washington, where they raised son Gregory, and daughter, Amanda. Ann preceded him in death on December 20, 2005.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Charles lived a life of faith in God. While enjoying an outing with the Valley Nazarene Prime Time Group, Charles met Darlene Shamberger. A date at the Symphony In The Park led to their union on November 18, 2007, and sixteen years of marriage.
Charles excelled in cooking and trying new recipes, loved reading books, learning history and completing puzzles. There was never a project that remained uncompleted around Charles, as he was a master handyman and enjoyed helping anyone in every way he could. He was also an avid sports fan, and especially loved watching Gonzaga basketball and became a recent WSU fan in support of his granddaughter.
Charles is survived by wife, Darlene; son, Gregory Rentfro; daughter, Amanda Henneberg (Rory), and granddaughters, Aubrey, Aliese, and Meryn; and siblings Donna Krietemeyer, Ronald Rentfro, Kenneth Rentfro, Pamela Conger, Barbara Lawyer, and Brenda Keigley.
Many thanks and much gratitude to the doctors and caretakers who helped through this journey. A special thank you to the Hospice House South of Spokane for their caring staff and support.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Spokane. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
