David E. Scott, 86 years old, passed away October 31, 2022 at his home on Peone Prairie. The only son of Oran and Edythe Scott, he was born on April 22, 1936. He grew tall and strong on the family farm, hoeing rows of cabbage, tending chickens, and growing crops alongside his father.
A 1954 graduate of Mead High School, he attended WSC (now WSU) before joining the U.S. Army. He served his country at Fort Ord, California, Fort Hood, Texas, and Fort Knox, Kentucky before returning home to farm. His hard work provided wheat, barley, oats, peas, lentils, cattle and chickens to feed a hungry country. Bales of alfalfa and timothy hay were hauled and stacked by his “Buck Power Union” kids before being sold to area horse owners. He was mechanical and fixer of all things. Using scrap metal he would cut and weld, building his service trailer, header carts and other implements to help make his farm a success. Then with a wink, smile and wave he’d put his tractor, swather, combine or truck into gear and head out to the fields to continue his life’s work.
Dave was a member of the Green Bluff Grange, Washington Association of Wheat Growers, and the Pea and Lentil Commission. This summer he received a 70 years of service seal from the Washington State Grange.
After retiring from farming, he and Cecelia became snowbirds, enjoying six months in Surprise, Arizona and six months on the farm. In the Arizona sun Dave loved fixing things around the RV park, working courtesy patrol in his assigned golf cart, and perfected the art of leather craft. His leatherwork was beautiful and still treasured by his loving family.
He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Cecelia. He was father to Kristina, Dawn, and Russell (Cindy) Scott. Dave was big brother to Marilyn Scott. He loved being Grandpa to Amber (Nate) Mocalis, Robbie Scott, Joey (Nicole) Scott, Brian (Stephanie) Scott and GGPa to nine great grandchildren: Alex, Emma, Jack, Lillian, Eloise, Henry, Theo, Lewis, and Sawyer.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday December 3, 2022 at 2pm at the Foothills Community Church, 11102 N. Forker Road, Spokane WA.
