Douglas Raymond Olinger

Doug, as he was affectionately known, was born on August 22, 1937, in Orem, UT to Clarence Lester and Bonnie Noreen Olinger

He was raised in Post Falls, ID and attended all of his school years there.

After graduating from Post Falls High School in 1951, he joined the United States Air Force and following Boot Camp (Sept. 1956 thru May 1957) he was sent to the Institute of Far Eastern Languages at Yale University, to learn the Mandarin Chinese Language so that he could become a linguist\translator. Once he completed his schooling, (June 1957 thru dec. 1958 he was transferred to various stations in the Far East (Philippine Island, Japan and Taiwan). Once he was Stateside he was transferred to Ft Meade Maryland to assist in setting up the linguist school (Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC)) located in that area.

While in Maryland (1960) he met a cutie and they fell head over heels for each other, he exited the Air force and married the love of his life, Janice Rose Harless. They promptly moved to Colvile Washington in the Pacific Northwest and started their family of 5 children, during which they moved around in Washington and Idaho several times until they settled in Spokane to raise their children, during that time Doug worked several jobs, including being a Cement finisher working for his brother-in-law, John Graham, for many years. While working as truck driver hauling hay he was injured and this gave him the opportunity to attend night school, and become a computer programer, and his love for computers began. He also worked as a maintenance man for James S Black and then for Alvin J Wolffe properties. At that time he got his General Contractors license, and he was able to work for them and do other jobs repairing and building decks, porches and anything that needed to be done. During his and Jan’s time working for Alvin J Wolff they moved to Florida to work at one of his complexes there, and then back and forth to Spokane, Florida and then to Georgia a couple times for a total of approx 10 yrs off and on.

During his years as a Professional Truck Driver (which he drove for a few trucking companies both local and Nation wide) and Jans years as an Apartment Manager they moved from Spokane, WA to Clarkston, WA and Lewiston, ID and back and forth a few times.

When he retired from Driving Truck they planned to spend lots of time with their many grand, great grand, and great great, grandchildren.

Doug will be remembered mostly for his sense of humor, his vast knowledge of many different things, his "Jack of all trades" abilities and his love for ALL Family (blood or not).

Doug is survived by 4 of their 5 children: sons: Martin Craig (Mat), Douglas Raymond II, David Allen, and his Daughter Kimberly Dawn (Bret) Monigold, 18 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, a few great great-grandchildren, his 2 sisters Sally Graham and Pat McCallum, numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents, 1 sister (Betty), 4th son Bryan Keith, 2 daughter-in-laws Dagmar and Vanessa, granddaughters Lacy Alexandra, Cami Antonia and Bonnie Rose.

Per Doug's wishes there will not be a funeral but a Celebration of Doug AND Jans lives will be scheduled at a later date.
