Elmer Francisco, a long time Spokane resident is survived by his wife, Diane’ children, Donna Olson (Jim) Spokane, Patty Woodworth (Roger) Hayden, Idaho, and Ron Francisco (Becki) Dallas, Oregon. He has 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Elmer was employed at the Spokesman Review for many years as a linotype operator and he finished his years of employment as a houseparent at the Lutheran School for the Deaf in Detroit, Michigan with his wife Millie. Upon retirement they returned to Spokane and Elmer survived Millie in death in 1992. Elmer married Diane Lindemann in 2000. Elmer was very involved in his church, Faith Lutheran Church for the Deaf on Northwest Boulevard. He served as an elder and church president. He became involved as a member of the International Lutheran Deaf Association and was president of the national organization for 8 years. Elmer loved teaching people American Sign Language. Many of his students became friends over the years. It always made him happy when someone was interested in learning to communicate with the deaf. There will be a viewing at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home at 1306 N. Pines Rd., Spokane Valley on Thursday, December 20 from 1-6 pm. The memorial service will be held December 21 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church 2733 W. Northwest Boulevard in Spokane at 2:00 pm. Interment will take place at Riverside Memorial Park.
