Ruth was born on June 13 1921, in Hugo, Colorado. Her parents were Harry and Mabel Knight. Ruth was the last surviving sibling of five. She had a twin sister Marjorie, a sister Mildred and brothers Willard and Donald. Ruth’s husband Bob passed away on Christmas day 1994. She had four granddaughters, one step granddaughter and two step grandsons. She had thirteen great grandchildren.
She stayed busy all of her life with husband and family. She loved to travel; Bob and Ruth were Snowbirds for many years. Over the years Ruth was active with Terry’s Cub Scouts and Beverly’s Blue Birds and Camp Fire Girls. She taught Sunday school and served on the PTA when her children attended Arlington grade school. She was a member of the Orchard Prairie Homemakers club and the Foothills Community Church. At church she served as a Deaconess and helped with Senior citizen Dinners. After Bob died she became an active member of the church’s widows group. She was a superintendent for 4H and FFA. Ruth worked at the fairgrounds at the Interstate Fair for twelve years, mostly in the youth building. She loved flowers and over the years took great pride in the awards she won for her flowers as well as her crochet and sewing work. Her main hobby was gardening and she loved working in her flower gardens. It gave her great peace and she saw it as God’s beauty on earth. She could name most any flower.
At the age of 81 Ruth began helping at the Orchard Prairie School. She volunteered in the kindergarten and first and second grades classes. She helped teach two of her great grandsons, Hunter and Jade. She assisted the kids with printing, reading, and also graded homework. When the teacher told the kids to “Be Quiet,” Ruth would say, “I want to hear a pin drop.”
In June of 2016, Ruth moved into Sullivan Park Assisted Living facility in Spokane Valley. She brought with her a positive attitude and sense of humor and soon made new friends with the residents and many of the staff. She loved to play Mexican Train, watch Gonzaga basketball, and Seahawk football.
Ruth is survived by her son Terry (Connie), Beverly (Arnie), granddaughters Amy (Ken), Kelly (Troy), Amber, and Teresa (Jim). Step grandchildren Shelly (Eric), Greg (Beth), and Sam (Chrissy). Great grandchildren in no particular order of preference Desi, James, Hunter, Jade, Cooper James, Austin, Lars, Ashley, Karlyn, Brody, Madison, and Bryce.
