Evelyne Marie Persinger Alley was born on June 21, 1922 and died on October 30, 2010 was known by one bright spirit and many nicknames, Evelyne M. Alley, died suddenly on Saturday, October 30, 2010. Evelyne was a great friend, care-giver, gardener, and fan of the Seattle Mariners; and she became the master of her two greatest passions - motherhood and nursing. She is survived by four daughters and their families who were the light of her life: Linda Bertholf, husband Craig, six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren; Sharon Sadler, husband Jim, two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; Debi Alley; and Sandi Mann, life partner, Doug Brusig, and one grandchild. Graduating from the Sacred Heart School of Nursing in 1944, she worked her way across the United States as a hospital nurse while her husband, Joseph R. Alley, trained and served in the U.S. Military. Joe and Evelyne settled down in their hometown of Spokane Valley in the late 1940’s. She was the best “stay at home” mom in the world from 1950-1976, after which time she began her esteemed career in extended care nursing. “Angel”, as she was called by many coworkers and patients, retired in 2002 at the age of 80. Evelyne Alley is preceded in death by parents Clifford and Irene Persinger, sisters June and Patricia, and husband Joseph. We thank Valley Hospital & Medical Center for making her last hours dignified and pain free.
