Frank H. Blair Jr. passed away December 28, 2022 after suffering a stroke due to an intracerebral hemorrhage. He was born in Forest Grove, Oregon on August 24, 1935 and grew up in the Panama Canal Zone and Forest Grove.
Frank had many interests, all of which gave him plenty of topics for shared conversations. He was proud of his involvement with Boy Scouts of America as a Boy Scout member and as an adult leader, taking his troop to Farragut State Park for the National Scout Jamboree in 1973. In 1973, he was awarded the Wood Badge in recognition of his scouting leadership. While in high school, Frank was a 4H Member and raised prize-winning hogs for showing at the State Fair in Hillsboro, Oregon. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology in 1958 and continued with Graduate Studies from 1958-1959 at Oregon State University. He also was involved with various seminars and short courses in team management and mineral exploration techniques. His professional societies included the American Institute of Professional Geologists, serving as president for the student chapter at OSU, and the Northwest Mining Association (now the American Exploration & Mining Association), receiving an Honorary Life Membership in 2008.
His global experience as a company geologist or consultant took him from Point Barrow, Alaska to Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. One of Frank’s most interesting and challenging endeavors was from 1979 to 1984 when he supervised a joint venture for the Anschutz Corporation based in Denver, Colorado for uranium exploration in the Republic of Paraguay, South America. A spin-off of the uranium exploration effort was the recognition of base metal and precious metal projects in the area which took Frank back to Paraguay from 1995 to 1997 with the Minera Yamana Corporation.
Frank was predeceased by his mother Mildred E. Rice and father Frank H. Blair, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy (Dot), his daughter Julene Davidson (husband Roger), sons Scott Blair, Keith Blair (wife Isabel), and Brian Blair (wife Kathy), 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. The family plans a private remembrance at a later time.
The family wishes to thank the ICU medical staff and Dr. Ryan Farnsworth at Sacred Heart Hospital, Dr. Brian Seppi and staff at Hospice House of Spokane, and Frank’s personal physician, Dr. John Floyd and his staff, for their professional care to Frank and his family. The family is also very grateful to Pastor Steve Brown and their church family from the Opportunity Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, for their visitation and continued prayer support.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.HazenJaegerValley.com for the Blair family.
