Gladys Hendrickson passed upward on November 29, 2011 with family at her side in the comfort of excellent professional care of the staff at the Sullivan Park Care Center. Her path of faith kept all her family focused on the promise of our reunion in the beautiful Garden of Heaven. In Frazee, Minnesota she was the first born daughter of Augusta Amanda (Radel) and Fred Henry Bartel on May 2, 1925 in a family of five sisters and three brothers who formed a strong circle of love and support. Gordon was her precious sweetheart and they married on May 12, 1944. Their lifetime together of 67 years took them far from the early days of farm life to the east coast for Gordon’s military service, then westward to their home in Spokane. She completed studies in cosmetology and had a reputation for excellence in this field- she served in a Supervisor position at Keytronics earning the respect of all who witnessed her unmatched work ethic and integrity. Their marriage produced a daughter and a son- the beginning of a family legacy of grandchildren and great grandchildren- all who consider this family matriarch to be the greatest blessing of their time together. Gladys is survived by her loving husband and partner in all things, Gordon, her daughter, Judy (Ken Arledge) and her son Dave (Sue); grandchildren, David (Carol), Aarron (Fran), Troy (Christy), Eric (Desiree) and Emily (Clint Hagen) will miss their Grandmother, as will the great grandchildren: McKenna, Peyton, Jacob, Ellie, Ezekiel, Wyatt and Faith. She is survived by three sisters: Ethel (Quade), Millie (Bud Johnson) and Donna Walsh, one brother Lowell Bartel and sister-in-law Bev (Kenny) Bartel. Gordon’s brothers, Jerry (BJ), Bob (Bertie) and their families will also miss the thoughtful Birthday greetings and spirited card games. Plates of vast assortment of cookies and steaming coffee were a part of any gathering at the Cabin in Montana- a warm space full of joy, peace and storytelling. Preceding Gladys in death are the following members of her family: both parents, brothers Freddie and Kenny, sister Clarice Mayer and brothers-in-law Joe Walsh (Donna), Ordie Mayer (Clarice) and Marv Quade (Ethel). Her gifts were many and her loving heart was always ready to share: A meticulous seamstress, the finest cook in the universe and gardening skills that produced flowers and vegetables fit for royalty.
