He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Melba, and daughter Cynthia Ross (Jim) Mead, WA, brother Luke Hollandsworth (Patty) Lafayette, Indiana, John Bernham (Jan) St. George, Utah and Lois Coats (Joe) Layton, Utah, two grandchildren and five great-grandsons.
James had a great love of the outdoors. He loved to hike into and fish high mountain lakes, many of which did not have trails to them, but never did enjoy eating the many fish he caught (his wife did, though). Member of the Spokane Camera Club for 35 years, James was an award winning nature and wildlife photographer. He was chairperson for the photo department at the Spokane Interstate Fair for 11 years. James loved to play guitar and sing gospel songs with family and friends. He enjoyed traveling and attending Southern Gospel concerts. James was a pitcher for church league softball teams, helping his teams to a couple of city championships.
James was given the award for 12 years perfect attendance in school. He then worked with logging crews in the Olympic Peninsula, before joining Morrison Knutson and then N.A. Degerstrom, where he worked as a heavy equipment parts manager.
He has attended Valley Assembly of God with his wife and family for 48 years.
Viewing will be held at Thornhill Valley, October 24, 2018 from 4-8 pm. There will be a Celebration of Life at 1pm onThursday, October 25th, at Valley Assembly of God, 15618 E. Broadway Ave., Spokane Valley, WA.
