James Gurney Miller, Jr. went peacefully to be with his Lord surrounded by loving family members on June 1, 2018. Jim was born in Oakland, CA on December 26, 1936 to Eileen Miller (Beckman) and James G. Miller, Sr. He and his mother soon moved to live near family in Lewiston ID. and later to Washington state. After graduating from Bremerton High School and starting a family he moved to Spokane and bought a small farm in Valleyford WA. There he raised his family and taught them how to take care of a variety of farm critters and a huge garden. Over the years he perfected his gardening and was able to feed many family and friends with its bounty. During the long winter months he traveled to Hawaii, Mexico, Costa Rica and eventually wintered in Yuma. His biggest joy in life was to be surrounded by his family and freinds having a big BBQ and spending time with his cousins, who looked up to him like a big brother.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister, daughter Maria, daughter-in-law Jenny and son-in-law Phillip J. Smith. He will be lovingly remembered by sons, Jim Miller, Mark Miller, Dan Miller, daughters Roxie Smith, Barbara Wentz (Dave) 8 grandchildren and many cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held at Terrace View park in Spokane Valley July 28th at 11:00 AM. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Shriners of Spokane or Hospice of Spokane.
