Janice Mae Scheibe, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandma, and friend, went to heaven on November 5th, 2016 rejoicing on the back of her favorite horse to the waiting arms of her husband, Frank. She was loved dearly and will be missed by her family, friends, and loyal dog Rocky. She will be remembered for her spunky personality, sense of humor, and her love for animals.
Born February 29th, 1936 in Clarkston WA. She was the first of four children born to Harold and Irene Dodd. Janice was raised on the family farm in Anatone WA, where a lifetime love for animals began, with a particular passion for horses. There wasn’t a horse Janice couldn’t ride. Janice continued to ride her horses well into her 70’s, logging many miles as an active member of the Trail Markers riding club. She shared her love for horses with her daughter and grandchildren, teaching them to ride.
She was involved in many activities in high school, including cheerleading, music, and the Royalty Court of the Asotin County Fair. She graduated from Anatone High School in 1953. That year she married the love of her life, Frank B. Scheibe. They celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary in September 2006 before Frank passed away.
Frank and Janice lived in Asotin County until 1970, when they moved their young family to Spokane, before again moving to Freeman in 1979. Janice was an active member and secretary of the First Church of the Nazarene in Lewiston Idaho and then the Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Irene Dodd, brother Donald, grandson Art Scheibe, and great-granddaughter Tori Ruchert. She is survived by her sons, Ron (Kim) Scheibe, Marc (Karla) Scheibe; daughter Sandee (Chuck) Ruchert; grandchildren Cassie Scheibe, Jason (Jenny) Ruchert, Christopher (Melissa) Ruchert, CharleeAnne (Tyler) Hall, and Nathan Scheibe; great-grandchildren Tristan and Emily Ruchert, InaJane Klein, Audrey and Mia Ruchert; her sister and best friend Darlene Hendrickson, and brother Dallas (Diane) Dodd.
A funeral service will take place at 1:00pm, Friday November, 11th at the Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene, 15515 E. 20th Ave. Spokane Valley. Burial will follow at the Freeman cemetery. A Dinner will follow burial at the Nazarene Church.
