Joseph “Joe’ Patrick Dawson passed away peacefully at home after a long battle with COPD on November 5, 2023. Joe was born September 2, 1941 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, to Earl and Gertrude Dawson. He was the youngest of nine children: George, Catherine Ann, Earl, Mary, Jim, Edna, Bill, and Bob. Joe married JoAnn Hattell on June 8th, 1963. He graduated from Gonzaga University in 1973 with a masters of education. In 1988 Joe was President of the Association of Washington, Middle Level Principals. He received the “You make a difference Award” from West Valley School District in 1996. Joe worked as a teacher, principal, and assistant superintendent until he retired in 2001. He then contributed to the community as an elected Fire Commissioner for Spokane Valley Fire Dept from 1998-2018. Joe is survived by his wife of 60 years, JoAnn, sons, Jeff (Brandy), Greg (Theresa), Ken (Dean), and Doug, brother, Jim, sister, Mary, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Heartfelt thanks to Horizon Hospice for their wonderful care and support. Rosary to be held on Thursday, November 16 at 5pm and funeral to be held on Friday, November 17 at 11am at St. John Vianney Catholic Church: 503 N Walnut Rd Spokane Valley, WA.
